When Paul describes his sophia in 2:7 as "God's wisdom in a mystery, which God decreed before the ages" (obscured in the NRSV paraphrase "wisdom, secret and hidden"), he writes in almost technical Jewish apocalyptic terms (not the language of mystery religions). , 1QS 3 : 1 3 ^ : 2 5 ; lQpHab 7:1-5), "mystery" (Heb. raz; Gk. mysterion) referred to God's plan for the deliverance of the people/Israel from imperial domination, which often was expressed in more grandiose terms as the eschatological fulfillment of history.
